BlueRecruit is a job recruiting platform designed to connect job seekers with potential employers within blue-collar industries. The website allows both job seekers and job hirers to create a profile describing their experience and/or what they are looking for in a quality candidate. In addition to discovering qualified candidates, BlueRecruit also offers technologies to quickly evaluate and interview candidates such as video calls and scheduling platforms.

Problem
The job hiring platform is currently plagued by a non-functional design and a confusing user experience, leading to significant usability challenges for both job seekers and employers. As a UX designer, my objective was to address these issues by creating an intuitive and efficient design that enhances the overall user experience of the platform.
Problem Description: The existing job hiring platform suffers from critical design flaws that hinder its functionality and user-friendliness. These issues create barriers to effective job searching, application submission, and candidate evaluation, negatively impacting the experience of both job seekers and employers. The key problems identified are as follows:
Complex and Overwhelming User Interface: The user interface of the platform is convoluted and overwhelming, overwhelming users with an excessive amount of information and features. The current design fails to provide clear visual hierarchies and intuitive workflows, making it challenging for users to navigate through the platform and accomplish their tasks. This complexity results in frustration and decreases user engagement.
Unclear Job Search and Filtering: Job seekers struggle to find relevant job listings due to ineffective search and filtering functionalities. The existing design lacks advanced search options, such as filtering by location, industry, or experience level, making it difficult for users to narrow down their search results to the most relevant opportunities. This limitation hampers efficiency and wastes users' time.
Inefficient Application Process: The application process on the platform is cumbersome and time-consuming. Users face difficulties in submitting their applications due to a complex and multi-step process. The lack of clear instructions and guidance leads to user confusion and may result in incomplete or abandoned applications. The current design fails to streamline and simplify the application process, hindering job seekers from effectively showcasing their qualifications.
Limited Candidate Evaluation Tools: Employers struggle with limited tools to evaluate and manage candidate applications. The platform lacks efficient candidate tracking, sorting, and rating mechanisms, making it challenging for employers to efficiently review and compare applicants. This limitation hampers the hiring process and may result in missed opportunities for both employers and qualified candidates.
Inconsistent and Incomplete Profile Information: The platform lacks standardized profile information and verification processes for job seekers. Incomplete or inconsistent profiles make it difficult for employers to assess candidates accurately. The absence of tools to validate skills, qualifications, and work history further complicates the hiring process, increasing the risk of mismatches between employers and job seekers.
Solution
Solution Approach: To address these critical problems, I adopted a user-centered design approach, focusing on the needs and pain points of both job seekers and employers. Through comprehensive user research, usability testing, and iterative design processes, I aimed to create a redesigned job hiring platform that offers an intuitive and efficient user experience. The proposed solutions include:
Simplified and Intuitive User Interface: I redesigned the user interface to provide a clean and intuitive visual experience. By employing proper information hierarchy, clear navigation patterns, and visual cues, users can easily navigate the platform, understand its features, and accomplish their tasks without feeling overwhelmed.
Enhanced Job Search and Filtering: I introduced advanced search and filtering options, empowering job seekers to find relevant job listings quickly. By incorporating filters for location, industry, experience level, and other relevant criteria, users can refine their search results and save time by focusing on the most suitable opportunities.
Streamlined Application Process: The redesigned platform features a streamlined and user-friendly application process. I simplified the steps required to submit an application, providing clear instructions and progress indicators to guide job seekers throughout the process. This enhancement aims to reduce friction and increase the completion rate of job applications.
